east meets west pt. I

base colour: Barry M Bright Red, striping tape and dried flowers: Born Pretty Store, nail pens: Nails Supreme

The Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds are taking part in Light Night Leeds this year, and so they asked me for my take on East Meets West...

These nails are inspired by the traditional Chinese qipao. I've always loved these dresses, especially being a 90s kid, as they popped up a lot in the grunge scene of that time. I thought I'd go one better and put them on my nails!

I went for a red base, and added the 'v' detail of the neck of the dress using striping tape, and a nail pen for the buttons. Most of the qipaos I've seen have a floral design, so I added tiny dried flowers to complete the look.

These turned out even better than I thought they would! I love that the traditional shape of the neck of the qipao fuses nicely with the modern 'negative space' nail trend.

Don't forget to take a look at the Confucius Institute's Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with what's on during Leeds Culture Month!

Check back later in the week to see how I style a qipao...
